Course Description

How can you get results if you don’t have authority? It can be difficult to get things done when you have to depend on others. People have competing interests and different priorities, and don’t always give you the cooperation you need. Cultivating relationships and establishing credibility are necessary, because they allow you to influence others. If you have effective influencing skills, you’ll be able to get what you need or want from others – whether it’s your boss, a peer, or someone in a completely different department. This skills come in handy at budget time or when you need additional resources. Effective influencing requires that you know how to build trust, good relationships, and that you have credibility.

You need to communicate with tact and finesse, and discover a way to find common ground and create reciprocity. The ability to adapt quickly and work with anyone to achieve desired results is crucial—especially when you don’t have immediate authority and need their cooperation. You’ll focus on the key elements of influencing others when there is lack of authority—personal power, persuasion and negotiation. This course also utilizes Emotional Intelligence skills and understanding differences between generations/cultures to help you become more effective thus achieving your desired outcome.

Through the application-based activities in each module (done in teams), you’ll acquire the specific skills, behaviors and attitudes necessary to achieve desired results without relying on the use of authority. You also learn to enhance your listening skills to avoid common misunderstandings. This course is available in full or half-day and webinar formats.
